Michael Barton
Director BSc BFP FCA

The founding director of RT, Michael spends the majority of his time outside the office, actively managing a portfolio of clients and utilising the knowledge he has amassed over the last 30 years to provide strategic advice and support.

In his various roles, Michael has enjoyed helping clients define and then achieve their strategic options.

Outside of the office, Michael is an automotive historian and a committed bibliophile. He is the founder of niche publishing company Butterfield Press, and author of several automotive-related books. He is the Chairman of The W O Bentley Memorial Foundation.

Rebecca Bradshaw
Director BSc (Hons) BFP FCA

Rebecca joined RT in 2004 as a trainee accountant, qualifying as an ACA in 2007 and then FCA in 2018. She oversees the day-to-day management of RT’s clients as well as concentrating on business development.

She helps clients not only negotiate their compliance responsibilities but to consider their longer-term goals and work through any challenges they may present.

Rebecca enjoys spending time with her two young children and loves reading, running and binge-watching trash TV.

Nick Smith
Consultant BA (Hons) FCCA

Nick started working with RT in 2013 after spending the last 15 years working in larger tier firms. Nick specialises in Audit, Assurance and Corporate Finance, working with some of RT’s international clients.

He says that the most enjoyable parts of his role are the variety of work that he undertakes and working with like-minded colleagues.

In his leisure time, Nick says he seems to spend most of the time walking his Labrador puppy.

Chloe Greenbank
Director BA (Hons) FCCA

Chloe joined RT in 2010 as a trainee accountant, successfully completing the ACCA qualification in 2013. Chloe works with some of our more diverse clients such as charities and legal practices. She is also heavily involved in business development.

She enjoys working with individuals and businesses to help achieve their goals, as well as assisting companies to grow from a start-up to a successful business.

Outside of work, she is a Brownie leader, watches Preston North End, enjoys city breaks and socialising, especially with a glass of wine.

Ian Sergeant
Senior Manager FCCA

Ian joined RT in 2007 as a trainee accountant, successfully completing his AAT qualification and then the ACCA qualification in 2014.

As well as providing accounts and tax services, Ian spends a significant amount of time assisting his portfolio of clients with the preparation of monthly management reports.

He also enjoys working with the trainees and helping them develop their knowledge.

Away from the office, Ian enjoys socialising with friends, watching sports and trying to keep fit by running.

Lucy Shepherd
Manager ACA

Lucy joined RT in 2013 and qualified as an ACA in 2019. She works with a portfolio of clients supporting them with accounts and tax matters. She also is the point of contact for many international clients assisting them with their UK reporting requirements.

She enjoys working closely with Stephanie to ensure the payroll function runs smoothly as well as working with a wide range of clients and seeing them succeed and grow.

During her spare time she enjoys socialising, exercise classes, running and spending time with her dog, Nellie.

Sarah Cuerden
Tax Senior Bsc (Hons) ACA

Sarah joined RT in 2019 as a trainee accountant, qualifying as an ACA in 2024. Sarah works with a range of clients helping to prepare VAT returns, accounts and tax returns.

As a Tax Senior Sarah is enthusiastic about her role, saying she enjoys the fact that each day she is learning new skills.

Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends and visiting the Lake District for long walks and pub lunches.

Stephanie Monks
Payroll Administrator

Stephanie joined RT in 2018 and runs our payroll department and has completed her Payroll Technician qualification.

Stephanie says she enjoys the challenges of the different tasks requested by the team and assisting RT in whatever way she can.

She loves being with her family and away from the office enjoys spending time with her children. She is also active and loves the outdoor life, going on long walks, which helps her to keep fit.

Sue McFadyen
Administrator

Sue joined RT in 2013 and since then she has been the face of RT, greeting all our clients with a smile and ensuring the office runs smoothly.

An outgoing person she says she enjoys meeting visitors and clients and making them feel welcome.

Sue is active in her leisure time, enjoying holidays and exploring off the beaten track by visiting buildings, ruins and castles. She is something of a thrill-seeker, enjoying the challenge of theme parks, with the taller and faster the ride the better.

Natasha Atkinson
Junior Accountant

Natasha joined RT in 2019, since then she has achieved the MAAT qualification and is now working towards becoming a chartered accountant. She assists a range of clients with accounts, bookkeeping and the preparation of VAT returns.

She enjoys the variety of the job and meeting a wide range of people that she comes into contact with daily.

Family and travel are important to Natasha who likes spending time with family and friends and going for weekends away. Natasha is also learning sign language.

Ollie Frimston
Trainee Accountant

Following his completion of AAT Level 4, Ollie is now working towards becoming a chartered accountant.

He says the most rewarding part of his role is working with colleagues to solve challenging problems for clients.

Away from the office, Ollie is a Preston North End season ticket holder and also enjoys attending gigs and festivals with his friends.

Mitchell Kos
Trainee Accountant

Mitchell joined RT in 2023 as a trainee accountant and is currently studying towards his AAT qualification. 

In his role, Mitchell works on bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll, and company secretarial work.

Mitchell has a passion for cars including cleaning them, he also likes staying active and going to the gym, as well as playing cricket for Chorley Cricket Club.

Daniel Abram
Trainee Accountant

Daniel is a dedicated Trainee Accountant working towards his ACA qualification at Rotherham Taylor.

He enjoys applying his analytical skills to bookkeeping, assisting with the preparation of financial statements, and other tasks within the practice.

The most rewarding part of his role is working as part of a team to offer solutions to clients.

Outside of the office, Daniel is a keen supporter of musical theatre and enjoys attending live performances.

He also gives back to his community by helping at Ashton Food Aid, a local food bank.

Max Hopkinson
Trainee Accountant

Working towards his ACA qualification, Max is developing his skills as a trainee accountant and particularly enjoys the problem-solving aspect of the role. 

He says there’s a real sense of achievement in working through a challenge and finding the best solution.

Max admits that balancing multiple deadlines while keeping every detail accurate can be demanding, but it has taught him to stay organised and focused, especially during busy periods. 

He credits the people he works with as his biggest inspiration, saying they push him to improve and show the value of strong teamwork.

Outside of work, Max enjoys table tennis, football and training in the gym, which help him stay active and unwind after a busy week.

3. Grant of probate or administration

 
If a valid Will is in place, the executors will apply for a grant of probate. This allows them to distribute the assets according to the wishes of the deceased.

Where there is no valid Will (the person has died ‘intestate’) a Grant of Administration must be applied for by the next of kin.
